Earth Day donation will have great impact on community
EDMONTON, April 22 /CNW/ - In the spirit of Earth Day, staff from ENMAX Corporation and Habitat for Humanity Edmonton (HfH-E) gathered at the Millcreek tree nursery. ENMAX announced that they will provide HfH-E with $13,000 worth of trees to plant at their Habitat build sites. Alfred Nikolai, HfH-E President and CEO; and Jacqueline Broverman, Sponsorship & Community Investment Specialist for ENMAX, made the special announcement.
"I'm proud to work for ENMAX because they contemplate as many ways as possible to consider the environment," said Jacqueline Broverman, Sponsorship & Community Investment Specialist, ENMAX Corporation. "On a grand-scale we build natural gas instead of coal-fired electricity generation facilities to significantly reduce air pollution. At the same time, on a community level we will work with organizations like Habitat to plant carbon dioxide absorbing trees. Either way, ENMAX takes positive steps to manage the air we breathe."
HfH-E is always seeking ways to improve the environment while they build homes for hard-working families. In 2000, they opened their first ReStore, a retail store that accepts donations of new and gently-used building materials and sells them to the public. This year they have opened a second store due to increasing demand. Last year, ReStore diverted over 700 tons of reusable materials from landfills.
"Habitat for Humanity is always thinking green," said Nikolai. "We're thrilled that ENMAX is thinking that way too - especially on Earth Day. They found a great way to support us by donating beautiful trees for our Habitat families and their communities. It's a win-win for everyone. They're being good stewards of the earth while helping us to build affordable housing for families in the capital region."
Ken Riske, Owner of Millcreek Nursery Ltd, will help leverage ENMAX's donation to make an even greater impact on Earth Day.
