QUÉBEC CITY, May 27, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - François Ouimet, Vice-President of the National Assembly and MNA for Marquette, speaking on behalf of Québec's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Pierre Arcand, is proud to announce that financial assistance of $346,918 has been granted for the design and construction of an energy efficient building to house the Inuulitsivik Health Centre. The project is financed out of the Green Fund, under the EcoPerformance Program, as part of the 2013-2020 Climate Change Action Plan.
"Our Government has said it will give priority to energy efficiency as a means of meeting consumers' energy needs," said Mr. Ouimet. "This is precisely what it is doing today, by supporting the construction of the building that will house the Inuulitsivik Health Centre. The design and construction of an energy efficient building clearly satisfies the Government's commitment and will help change Québec's energy profile. I am proud that the riding of Marquette is helping Québec to avoid an additional 277.5 tons of greenhouse gas emissions."
The project will help prevent greenhouse gas emissions by limiting the use of natural gas to heat new air in the building, and by reducing the amount of energy used by the boilers and water heaters to generate heat for the thermal loop and hot water system. The measures used in the building will reduce natural gas consumption by 147,053 m3.
"Responsible development of our energy resources is vital to the economic growth of Québec's regions," said Mr. Arcand. "Our Government has set some ambitious targets in its 2030 Energy Policy. To achieve these targets and bring our vision to fruition, we must offer energy choices for different types of users and set a clear example in our own institutions."
