EDA Welcomes Minister of Energy Support for Voluntary Consolidation
TORONTO, March 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The Electricity Distributors Association (EDA) welcomes Minister of Energy, Bob Chiarelli's announcement supporting voluntary consolidations of Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) at the EDA's Annual General Meeting on March 18, 2013.
The Minister acknowledged the important role that LDCs play in their communities and that they are best positioned to find efficiencies in their operations that will benefit their customers.
"We are pleased with the Minister's announcement that supports our call for mergers and amalgamations in our sector to be conducted on a voluntary basis" said Charlie Macaluso EDA President and CEO. "Voluntary mergers based on sound business cases will produce the best sustainable outcomes for communities".
The EDA looks forward to working with government to bring forward the range and breadth of efficiencies we have identified in our Six-Point Plan that will provide local benefits and enhance LDCs' value to their communities.
