EDC announces its 13th annual competition for international business
scholarships
OTTAWA, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - Export Development Canada (EDC) today launched its 13th annual national competition of the EDC International Business Scholarship Program, which is designed to promote the importance of international trade among Canada's future business leaders.
EDC will offer as many as 30 scholarships, 25 of which will recognize exceptional students in the field of international business, finance or economics. The remaining five scholarships will be awarded to outstanding business students who combine these fields with a focus on sustainable management or environmental studies.
"Canada's future business leaders need opportunities to learn about the importance of international trade to our economy and our future prosperity; EDC's International Business Scholarship Program is designed to provide those opportunities," said Eric Siegel, President and CEO.
Karen McBride, President of the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), which administers the program on behalf of EDC, added: "EDC's International Business Scholarship Program underscores the importance of international trade among Canada's future business leaders. We at CBIE believe strongly that an internationalized education for Canadians is a key component of Canada's global competitiveness, and we are delighted to be involved in this important EDC initiative."
The scholarship winners will receive a $3,000 cash award. This year's application deadline is January 24, 2011. Scholarships will be awarded in the spring of 2011.
EDC's scholarship program is a key component of its community investment strategy, which focuses on youth and trade education in Canada.
