OTTAWA, June 7, 2017 /CNW/ - Export Development Canada (EDC) will hold its second annual Community Investment Day on June 8, devoting the day to helping more than 30 charitable organizations across Canada and around the world.
This year, 1,000 employees will take part, at head office in Ottawa, in regional offices across Canada and in EDC's international representations in Brazil, Colombia, India, Mexico and Singapore.
"It's a great day to serve the people in the communities we care about, connect with each other, have some fun and, I hope, make a small difference through our collective efforts," says Catherine Decarie, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs. "We hope that by making time to give back, we're showing our support for the many organizations that work hard every day to strengthen our communities."
Activities include cleaning public shorelines, planting trees, making sandwiches for local shelters, building benches and planters for community housing, mentoring new Canadians and doing a CARE Canada Walk in Her Shoes walk to raise awareness of women's issues around the world, to name a few.
EDC partners with Volunteer Ottawa to organize the annual event, which gives EDC employees meaningful opportunities to give back to the causes they care about.
Based on those volunteer efforts last year, EDC was recognized with a Leadership in Corporate Volunteerism Award at Volunteer Ottawa's 7th Annual VOscars held on April 26.
Community Investment Day is one event of a broader program that includes charitable donations and campaigns, partnerships with organizations such as CARE Canada and Enablis, as well as youth education initiatives such as the international business scholarship program.
