Edmonton's William Hawrelak Park and Calgary's Prince's Island Park named top outdoor summer dining destinations in Alberta
The President's Choice® team asks Albertans to expect more from their al fresco dining experiences
CALGARY, June 30, 2015 /CNW/ - (TSX:L) Following the cold winter months, the President's Choice® brand is celebrating the joy of summer by providing Canadians with inspired outdoor recipes. The mouth-watering, warm-weather recipes are inspired by local outdoor dining destinations and favourite summer food items. With barbeque season in full swing, it's no surprise that when the President's Choice® team asked Albertans what foods they were looking forward to indulging in this summer they said juicy beef burgers (79 per cent), fresh fruit (61 per cent), velvety ice cream (60 per cent), and crisp salads (57 per cent).
When it comes to where Alberta residents love to dine under the sun and stars, home is certainly the most popular option, with more than 80 per cent preferring their own backyard followed by the beach (38 per cent).
"We are lucky to live in such a beautiful country with a wealth of outdoor dining locations, from provincial parks to cottages to our own backyards," said President's Choice® executive chef Tom Filippou. "Our President's Choice® chefs have developed the perfect al fresco recipes that pair perfectly with the Prairies top outdoor dining locations."
The President's Choice® team surveyed residents of Calgary and Edmonton to determine their top outdoor dining destinations.
Prince's Island Park took the lead among Calgarians (46 per cent), followed by Fish Creek Provincial Park (28 per cent), Edworthy Park (14 per cent), Sandy Beach Park (7 per cent) and Stanley Park (5 per cent). In Edmonton, William Hawrelak Park came out on top with 66 per cent of the vote, with Emily Murphy's Park (12 per cent), Gold Bar Park (8 per cent), Kinsmen Park (7 per cent) and Queen Elizabeth Park (6 per cent) rounding out the list.
Albertans can try the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Blue Cheese Slaw – perfect for a barbeque at Calgary's Prince's Island Park with family and friends.
For vegetarians, the Tomato, Pesto and Goat's Cheese Naan Bites are a delicious option. Laden with herbs and vegetables, including PC® Splendido Basil Pesto and PC® Grape Tomatoes, these delicious snacks take their cue from the greenery at Edmonton's Hawrelak Park.
