EDMONTON, May 11 /CNW/ - They're just marking their first birthdays, but a group of tiny teachers are being celebrated this week for their contribution to building a more caring, peaceful and civil society.
Mary Gordon, Founder/President of Roots of Empathy will be joining the thirty-three babies and their parents for a celebration of their contribution to teaching 825 elementary school children this year. These babies and their families have visited thirty-three classrooms throughout the school year as part of the Roots of Empathy curriculum to build children's social and emotional understanding. Roots of Empathy is evidence-based to reduce bullying and aggression.
The Roots of Empathy program in Edmonton and across the province is made possible by the support of Alberta's Children Services as well as community contributions from one corner of the province to the other. Programs are offered in French as well as English, and are also offered in Aboriginal communities.
Roots of Empathy is a registered charity and non-profit organization with award-winning national and international programs whose mission is to build a more caring, peaceful and civil society through the development of empathy in children and adults.
