TORONTO, Dec. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - Suzanne Herbert has been appointed to the board of directors of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO) for a three-year term that will run until September 2020.
Suzanne brings a wealth of experience in both education and the public sector to the HEQCO board. She served as a Deputy Minister in the Ontario Government from 1997 to 2008. During this time she worked with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, and the Ministry of Community and Social Services. During her time with the Ministry of Education, she also represented Canada for several years at the OECD Education Directorate.
Suzanne's background includes work with both the college and university sectors. In 2016 she provided strategic advice to three ministries on the adult education system in Ontario. In 2014/2015 she was asked to review the funding model for Ontario's universities, which resulted in the public report, "Focus on Outcomes, Centre on Students: Perspectives on Evolving Ontario's University Funding Model." In 2013/2014 she led the negotiations on behalf of the Ontario government for strategic mandate agreements with Ontario's 24 colleges.
"Sue's extensive government and education experience will make her a great addition to the HEQCO board," says HEQCO President and CEO Harvey Weingarten. "We look forward to drawing on her diverse background and benefitting from her insight."
