EFW Radiology Makes MRIs More Accessible in Calgary

Introduces flat-rate pricing program "One Visit One Price"

CALGARY, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ - EFW Radiology has changed how uninsured MRIs will be offered at clinics in the Calgary area. EFW Radiology clinics will now offer MRIs based on a flat-rate pricing model. This is a significant departure from how providers have traditionally charged for imaging services and a first of its kind in Alberta.

"We want to be patient-centered in our approach. The new "One Visit, One Price" structure means patients will pay a single inclusive price per MRI visit, regardless of how many body parts they need imaged," said Dr. Houman Mahallati, Managing Partner at EFW Radiology.

"The uncertainty waiting for diagnostic imaging can be very stressful for patients. We are making the community MRI option more attainable and affordable, therefore giving people the opportunity for peace of mind."

EFW Radiology will now charge $600 ($850 for 'contrast', if required) per visit for imaging. Other providers typically charge by body part, which makes complex MRI exams very expensive, resulting in costs in the thousands of dollars. EFW radiologists are fellowship trained, sub-specialized experts in their specific fields of medicine.

"EFW believes in helping doctors and patients find answers. Price should not be a barrier for those who want access to uninsured MRIs," said Dr. Mahallati. "We believe this new approach will ease the stress on the public system and will contribute to shorter wait times for publically funded imaging in our healthcare system."
