The Government of Canada provides nearly $2.5 million in funding to multiple businesses in the Lanaudière region

In order to create and market innovative products, businesses must be able to rely on adequate resources. In 2017, the Government of Canada announced an ambitious plan to support innovative Canadian businesses. A driving force of the economy, innovation is the key to success in Canada, generating growth that benefits both businesses and communities.
With funding from CED, eight businesses in the Lanaudière region will be able to carry out projects that generate total investments of over $13 million in the region. In particular, the projects are aimed at improving productivity by updating state‑of‑the‑art equipment and implementing marketing strategies in Canada and abroad. The announced contributions will also lead to the creation of 34 jobs in the region.
These repayable contributions of $2,487,560 were announced today by Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.
The eight recipient businesses are: Plastrec Inc., Industries UDACO Ltd, Composites VCI Inc., Robert Hydraulique Inc., Usinage CNC Production Inc. (in French only), Devolutions Inc., Biexo Inc. and Apogee Trailers.
The funding, allocated by the Government of Canada under CED's Quebec Economic Development Program will enable recipient businesses to attain their growth objectives.

A $1,000,000 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $8,000,000 The purpose of the project is to optimize the manufacturing process. By acquiring specialized production equipment, the company will be able to increase its production and thereby enable it to seize business opportunities on a market where the demand is increasing. With CED's funds, the company will be able to acquire a new extruder and other process equipment. Founded in 1992, Plastrec produces a food-grade recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) resin from post-consumer containers. The resin produced is used by various manufacturing sectors, including the food and non-food sectors. Located in Joliette, this SME is part of the recovery sector's value chain as a strategic, unique and value-added intermediary between selective recycling companies and manufacturers of products with recycled content. Furthermore, Plastrec is currently among the top five PET processors in North America, recovering over 120 million pounds, or approximately 2 billion PET bottles, a year. |

A $332,820 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $1,109,400 The purpose of the project is to improve the company's productivity and increase its production capacity. By acquiring new equipment, the SME will be able to complete the automation and digitization of its production. More specifically, the funds from CED will be used to acquire and install a laser cutting table, a digital lathe, an overhead crane, a plate drawer system, production and design software and a mezzanine. Industries UDACO is a SME in Saint-Félix-de-Valois which specializes in manufacturing custom steel products, such as industrial, mining and security equipment as well as structural components for structural work. The company was founded in 1985 and has 27 employees. |

A $272,500 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $545,000 The purpose of the project is to improve productivity and the flexibility of the manufacturing process by implementing an automated machining cell. The funds from CED will enable the company to purchase and install a machining centre, a dust extractor, a table saw and a 3D modelling software. By automating operations and rearranging the production floor, the company will increase its performance and double its capacity and sales in a favourable market in Canada and the United States. Founded in 1987, Composites VCI designs, manufactures and integrates large-scale composite material parts for equipment manufacturers in the aerospace, renewable energy and public transportation industries. VCI manufactures short series of over one hundred parts, including flight simulators, nacelles, nosing and wind turbine blades, and roofs for buses and trains. In the past few years, VCI won General Electric's Strategic Partner and CAE's Best Supplier awards. VCI has 85 employees. |

A $268,600 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $951,000 The purpose of the project is to increase sales and enhance the innovation potential of Robert Hydraulique Inc. The project has two parts: the first involves carrying out the research and development activities required to design a new product; the second involves implementing a marketing strategy for the company's products in the United States. Robert Hydraulique is one of the few companies that manufactures insulated, telescopic aerial ladders. It holds the intellectual property right to this innovative product. For the past 20 years, Robert Hydraulique has manufactured models that operate using electricity, enabling the company to distinguish itself environmentally which gives it a competitive advantage. It is well placed in the Canadian market and markets its products internationally. Approximately 50 South Korean fire trucks are equipped with the company's lifts. The company has 48 employees. |

A $225,000 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $1,180,000 The purpose of the project is to improve the company's productivity and increase its production capacity. More specifically, it consists of acquiring digital equipment. The company will then be able to seize new business opportunities. The funds from CED will be used, among other things, to purchase a digitally controlled machine. Usinage CNC Production provides sub-contracting machining services using extremely high precision digital control. Since the company's focus is the quality of products and services, it implemented a robust quality system and obtained its ISO 9001 certification in 2013. Usinage CNC Production opened its doors in January 2003 and now has 31 employees. |

A $206,900 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $757,000 The purpose of the project is to expand the company, which has enjoyed consistent growth in the past few years. More specifically, the project involves acquiring computer equipment to enable it to expand its product offerings and its facilities to ensure it provides its employees, its most important resource, with high performance workspace. CED's funds will be for both project components. Founded in 2010 and located in Lavaltrie, Devolutions is an information and communication technologies company with 80 employees. Its objective: assisting companies to improve the security of their computer networks by providing high performance connection tools and passwords. The current range of Devolutions products includes Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Cloud, Devolutions Server and Wayk Now. |

A $106,740 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $420,000 The purpose of the project is to improve the company's productivity and increase its production. In order to seize business opportunities, the company had to automate part of the welding service. CED's funds will therefore be used to acquire and install a robotic welding cell. Founded in 2008, Biexo is a leader in the design and manufacture of tanks used to store automotive fluids. It offers a wide range of tanks, and manufactures custom models. Biexo technology is used across Canada and in the united States, and demand for its products is increasing. |

A $75,000 repayable contribution out of a total investment of $150,000 The purpose of the project is to support this start-up company which must acquire production equipment in order to manufacture an innovative type of trailer. More specifically, CED's funds will be used to purchase an MIG welder, a TIG welder, a folder and an industrial ventilation system. The funds will also enable the SME to develop its website. Founded on February 26, 2016, Apogee Trailers is located in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan and manufactures the Adapt-X, a new generation trailer. This foldable, aluminum trailer is a unique product on the market as it is sturdy, light, and durable, and it can be stored in an area just 38 inches deep. It can therefore meet the needs of a wide variety of clients in urban and semi-urban environments needing to transport recreational vehicles or any type of material or object. The company, which has patents in Canada and the United States, is growing quickly and already has 10 employees. |
