EllisDon returns from successful building mission in Haiti

Companies work with Empower Global to deliver trades facility to Cap-Haïtien residents

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - On February 7, EllisDon's Chief Estimator, Jason Walker, returned from a mission to Haiti- with experts from six related businesses- after having constructed a trades facility for local residents. Following a fundraising campaign that raised $60,000 to finance construction, accommodations and equipment, Walker worked with Empower Global Inc., a Canadian-registered local charity, to oversee on-site construction during this project.

The trades facility- constructed in tandem with Covertite Roofing, Walters Inc., Harris Rebar, Bellai Brothers, Birnie Electric, Roth Construction Ottawa, and Modern Niagara- will now host much-needed welding, automotive and woodworking workshops for a very appreciative community.

The team worked daily on tasks that included the installation of two 80 x 30 foot roofs, an in-house water-pressure system, electrical power and lighting distribution, and playground equipment, among other efforts. Many of the locals were impressed with the team's commitment to complete the project- with little-to-no modern technology- in only eleven days.
