Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee to Receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 19, 2014 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Each year, the Town of Elmvale in Springwater Township hosts the Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival, which is a fundraising event in support of community groups and projects. The Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee has provided ongoing financial support over the past 10 years to the Springwater Fire and Emergency Service for numerous fire prevention initiatives, including the purchase of a Sparky the Dog mascot costume and a Sparky's Hazard House educational resource.
The Committee also funds fire department events such as the Fire Chief of the Day program, materials for the department's annual Fire Prevention Week campaigns and provides the fire department with free space at the Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival to promote fire safety messages to hundreds of people every year.
To date, the Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee has provided over $5,000 in support of Springwater Fire and Emergency Service's fire prevention initiatives.
"Thanks to Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee, the Springwater Fire and Emergency Service has been able to promote fire and life safety messages to groups who can be harder to reach," said Ted Wieclawek, Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council.
