Toronto's Own Comedy Star, Will Arnett, returns as Master of Ceremonies for the Hospital's Comedy Gala
TORONTO, Nov. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's leading community teaching hospital is set to give Toronto a follow-up dose of its funniest prescription ever with Laughter is the Best Medicine II. Emmy and Grammy award winner, Chris Rock, will headline Toronto East General Hospital's comedy gala—zapping the funny bones of the city's movers and shakers on March 29, 2014 at the Allstream Centre.
Will Arnett, known for his sardonic wit and hallmark irreverence—and now bestowed with the tongue-in-cheek title of "Honorary TEGH Doctor", following his side-splitting performance hosting the inaugural Laughter is the Best Medicine (April 2012)—is returning as Master of Ceremonies for what promises to be another hilarious comedy event.
"Chris Rock is an iconic comedian in a class of his own," said Michael Geddes, Gala Co-Chair. "Entertainment Weekly has called him 'the funniest person in America' plus he's consistently voted 'One of the Greatest Stand-ups of All Time'. We're ecstatic to be able to present our guests with such outstanding talent for the gala and equally thrilled that Mr. Rock has chosen Laughter is the Best Medicine II for a rare stand up comedy appearance. It will be a memorable evening!"
"When Jerry Seinfeld headlined the inaugural Laughter Is the Best Medicine Comedy Gala, with Will Arnett as MC, we set a new standard for charity galas in this city," said Toronto East General Hospital Foundation Board Chair, Michael Burns. "The event, which drew a healthy turnout of approximately 1600 guests, raised three million dollars for The Toronto East General Hospital Foundation."
Burns added, "People are still smiling about it. And Laughter is the Best Medicine II is shaping up to be even better. The room will be in stitches!"
The proceeds from Laughter is the Best Medicine II will contribute to the establishment of the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre at Toronto East General Hospital. TEGH is also delighted to welcome BMO Financial Group back as Presenting Sponsor.
