Energy Professionals Response to Federal Government Approval of Darlington Nuclear Environmental Assessment
TORONTO, May 4, 2012 /CNW/ - The Society of Energy Professionals says it supports the Federal Government's decision to approve the Darlington New Nuclear Project Environmental Assessment (EA).
"I am pleased that the Federal Government has concluded that the project will not result in any significant adverse environmental impacts" Rod Sheppard Society President says.
"It is an important step towards bringing much needed new nuclear units to the Darlington site which will produce low cost reliable energy and also act as a stimulant to the local economy"
Sheppard says he now looks forward to the next milestone which is the issuance of the site preparation licence.
The Society of Energy Professionals represent more than 8300 engineers, telecommunications and information technology professionals, scientists and others who for generations have designed, built, operated and helped safeguard Ontario's vast electricity system. The Society's members work for Ontario Power Generation, Hydro One, Bruce Power, the IESO, the OEB, the ESA and other key electricity sector employers.
