A first for Quebec
Martin Roy has become the first Quebec engineer to join the ranks of the most respected green building professionals in North America. Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in cooperation with the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), LEED Fellow designation pays tribute to the recipient's unique expertise, leadership, innovation, dedication and major professional achievements, including his outstanding contribution to green building. Among the Class of 2013, representing 51 candidates who have earned the highest honour that LEED-certified professionals can receive, are three people from Canada, including one from Quebec. All in all, only seven Canadians have earned LEED Fellow status since it was created. To receive the title, candidates must have a minimum of 10 years' experience in green building, be a LEED AP with specialty, and be nominated and backed by their peers. Nominations undergo a stringent review by a committee of experts appointed by the USGBC.
The new LEED Fellows will be recognized on Thursday, November 21 at the world's largest green-building event, GREENBUILD, to be held this year in Philadelphia. http://www.greenbuildexpo.org/home.aspx
Big news for Quebec engineering!
For Martin Roy, the designation comes as recognition of over 25 years of sustained efforts, not only to promote an approach to construction that is effective, profitable, sound and environmentally friendly, but also to develop a business model based on collaboration, dialogue and a code of ethics that instills the engineering profession with new meaning and a sense of pride.
"Engineers, particularly the next generation, can take pride in their profession. Today, they are in a position to make a major contribution to making the world a better place."
An uncommon career path
One of the first LEED-certified professionals and a member of the Technical Committee of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), Martin Roy is an inspiring, accessible model for younger generations of engineers thanks in no small part to his professionalism, innovative flair, numerous achievements and unflagging efforts to promote sustainable development both within the profession and among the general public. A recipient of the Grand Prix d'Excellence from the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec in 2007 as well as several other local and international awards and distinctions, Martin Roy is without question the Quebec leader in bioclimatic engineering. As a speaker appearing at universities and public forums, Martin Roy is helping to make the principles of green building more accessible and to inspire students, architects, policy makers, engineers, managers and the Canadian public to embrace change.
