Enjoy hot sounds and cool science at ScienceROCKS!, the Ontario Science Centre's 19+ evening events
This summer, Ontario Science Centre transforms into a 19+ musical playground
TORONTO, June 5, 2014 /CNW/ - Turn up the heat and the music this summer! ScienceROCKS! transforms the Ontario Science Centre into a musical playground for grown-ups, where the 19+ crowd can take in live performances, engage in thought-provoking presentations, explore the new exhibition The Science of Rock 'N' Roll and catch the film Rolling Stones at the Max on the big screen. From 7 p.m. to midnight on July 24, August 21, and September 18, the Science Centre invites adult visitors to experience science in the key of rock.
"I think we've found the perfect formula for a summer evening - hot sounds and cool science. The Ontario Science Centre will come alive in a way it never has before," said Dr. Hooley McLaughlin, Chief Science Officer, Ontario Science Centre. "ScienceROCKS! allows adult visitors to explore the intersection of art and science through the medium of rock music in a relaxed setting and discover that science can be found in the most unexpected places."
Each ScienceROCKS! evening focuses on a different music-themed topic and explores it through a scientific lens:
- Memory & Music explores the link between music and memory. How is it we can remember a song we learned when we were eight years old but can't remember what we had for lunch three days ago?
- Just the Hits considers what makes chart-toppers so catchy. Why do parts of certain songs - called earworms - continue to play in our heads long after we've heard them?
- New Technology & Making Music showcases technological advances in music. How does new technology affect the musical experience?
Each ScienceROCKS! evening covers the gamut: from musical performances to DJs spinning hits, and from interactive science experiments to party games like Name That Tune to ensure the experience is as entertaining as it is enlightening. ScienceROCKS! is a great option for an affordable, engaging and - most importantly - fun evening out in Toronto.
In addition to innovative programming, ScienceROCKS! provides a unique opportunity for attendees to discover The Science of Rock 'N' Roll, an exhibition that explores how science and technology have impacted the evolution of rock and influenced how we make, listen to and share music. With cutting-edge technology and seven areas to explore, this exhibition has something for everyone - science and music lovers alike. Advance tickets are now available for $15 at www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/boxoffice/ and for $18 at the door. Tickets include: admission to event and IMAX film, live performances, activities and parking. All ScienceROCKS! events are licensed, with food and drink available for purchase onsite.
