Enterprise lauded as a leader in workplace best practices in 12th annual Greater Toronto's Top Employers competition
TORONTO, Dec. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Enterprise Holdings, the largest car rental company in Canada and the owner of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent A Car brands, has been named one of the best employers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by Mediacorp Canada Inc., in its annual Greater Toronto's Top Employers competition. The award is a benchmark commendation in the GTA for workplace best practices, and – of the 100 winners – Enterprise Holdings is the only car rental company on the list.
"The GTA has always attracted the best and brightest from across the country," says Richard Yerema, managing editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project, which manages the GTA competition. "Other parts of Canada have long watched with dismay at the numbers of educated and talented young people moving to Toronto. But today the GTA is a beacon for talented people from around the world – and employers in this region now lead the nation when it comes to offering progressive HR policies and initiatives that reflect such a varied and diverse population."
Winning employers who made the Greater Toronto's Top Employers list were evaluated on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
"It is an honour to be recognized among such reputable employers in Toronto," said Margi Dolan, assistant vice president of human resources for Enterprise Holdings in Canada. "Our drive for employer excellence comes from the nature of our corporate culture, which is to take care of our employees and the communities in which they live and work."
Additional Canadian accolades
This recognition comes on the heels of Enterprise being named one of The Best Places to Work in Canada by the popular job finding site, Indeed, earlier this year. To compile the list, Indeed scoured its database of 600,000 employee reviews and narrowed down the top 25 places to work in Canada.
Over the years, Enterprise has been widely recognized for employment and recruiting practices in Canada, including receiving a North American Candidate Experience Award from Talent Board; a TalentEgg National Campus Recruitment Excellence Award for Best Grad Program; and a Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) Excellence in Innovation Award for its careers site. Additionally, Enterprise is a multi-year award recipient of the "50 Best Employers in Canada" by the Globe and Mail Report on Business magazine.
Growth spurring hiring and promotions
Enterprise Holdings' diverse brand portfolio accounts for more than 750 fully staffed neighborhood and airport locations and more than 5,400 employees throughout Canada. In 2016, new and expanding Enterprise business lines, airport and neighbourhood locations resulted in hiring in every province across the country.
This year, Enterprise projects continued expansion across Canada, with plans to open as many as 15 new neighbourhood branches. In addition, hiring trends continue to be positive with more than 500 new employees joining the Management Training Program in Canada.
The renowned Enterprise Management Training Program gives university graduates the opportunity to see and touch every aspect of the business, including learning how to empower teams and provide excellent face-to-face customer service. Other hallmarks of the program include extensive training in a wide range of business skills, including profit and loss management, business-to-business marketing and sales, and operational logistics.
Enterprise's promote-from-within culture encourages success among Management Trainees, allowing them to move up in the company quickly based on their performance and work ethic. In fact, many of the company's top executives got their start in the Management Training Program. And with a breadth of job opportunities and business functions to support the company's operations, Enterprise Holdings offers employees the opportunity to switch careers without switching companies.
So far this year alone, more than 15,000 Enterprise employees have received internal promotions, advancements, moves or relocations. It is this philosophy of promoting from within that creates a continuous cycle of new opportunities for employees – from Management Trainees to executive leadership.
