Entrust to provide security for University Hospitals Birmingham web-based portal for patients
Portal will offer patients safe, convenient and secure internet access to medical records, anytime and from any location
READING, England, May 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Entrust, a leading provider of identity-based security solutions, today announced it will provide strong two-factor authentication for the myhealth@QEHB registration process which provides users with their medical record and clinical information. Entrust has been selected in partnership with Xchanging's network and systems integrator, Data Integration, to ensure the myhealth@QEHB portal gives patients access to their medication, lab results, letters and inpatient/outpatient information, in a safe and controlled environment.
University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is one of the first NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK to develop a system that gives patients the tools they need to take control of their own records, health and well-being. Designed with the patient in mind, myhealth@QEHB helps users quickly and conveniently access key information, anywhere and at any time. First trialled by a handful of patients, Data Integration and Entrust have now been jointly appointed to assist in its expansion, with an initial target of 2,000 patients to be given access to the system over the coming weeks.
Entrust's strong authentication solution, IdentityGuard will provide secure access to the portal and full assurance that the user is associated with a specific log-in account. Entrust IdentityGuard allows layers of authentication to be implemented within a single platform.
Jim Williams, Application Development Manager at University Hospitals Birmingham commented, "The myhealth@QEHB system and environment is hosted securely at UHB's IT Services, it allows users to share their profiles if they choose to do so."
Mark Reeves, Senior Vice President International at Entrust, commented, "We're delighted to be involved in this project, to help preserve the integrity of patients' confidential information. It's crucial that Entrust can offer a solution that provides complete security, to mitigate the risk of unauthorised access and outsider intrusion. We look forward to working with University Hospitals Birmingham and Data Integration to progress this ground-breaking project."
