EQAO Profiles Three Schools in Southwestern Ontario for Improving Student Achievement
TORONTO, Sept. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - The Grand Erie District School Board's Port Rowan Public School (Port Rowan), the Greater Essex County District School Board's Bellewood Public School (Windsor) and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board's Mountainview Public School (Hamilton) are being profiled in the Education Quality and Accountability Office's (EQAO's) Provincial Elementary School Report, released today, for their committed efforts and success improving student achievement.
Fourteen elementary schools across the province are being profiled this year. Each has been identified because of the notable improvement in its EQAO results over time. Each school team has shared how EQAO and other data have been used to guide instructional programs, which in turn have helped improve the literacy and numeracy skills of students.
QUOTES
"Data is my friend, and my job as principal is to help teachers grow in their understanding. Data is a tremendous tool that allows us to see our effectiveness, and if there are gaps we can address them."
— Margaret Payne, Principal, Port Rowan Public School
"Without data, how can you place value in what you do and teach? Data tells me where to focus, how to learn and how to think. It allows for a road map to an appropriate end."
— Todd Awender, Former Principal, Bellewood Public School
"This school is buzzing with learning. We are trying to develop a love of learning in our students and show them the benefits of hard work and not giving up. They know what excellence is and how they can achieve it. We celebrate learning here."
— Rosemary Coomber, Principal, Mountainview Public School
"The schools being profiled this year are being recognized for their success improving student learning and for their effective use of EQAO data to help guide their reflective practice. Their remarkable outcomes are a testament to how good information in the hands of dedicated professionals can be a winning combination for supporting student achievement. These school stories will no doubt serve to inspire other schools across the province."
— Bruce Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer, EQAO
