EQAO Profiles Two Schools in Eastern Ontario for Improving Student Achievement
TORONTO, Sept. 18, 2013 /CNW/ -
NEWS
The Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board's Mother Teresa Catholic School (Kingston) and the Upper Canada District School Board's Laggan Public School (Dalkeith) are being profiled in the Education Quality and Accountability Office's (EQAO's) Provincial Elementary School Report, released today, for their committed efforts and success improving student achievement.
Fourteen elementary schools across the province are being profiled this year. Each has been identified because of the notable improvement in its EQAO results over time. Each school team has shared how EQAO and other data have been used to guide instructional programs, which in turn have helped improve the literacy and numeracy skills of students.
QUOTES
"Use of data has allowed us to individualize our instruction. We would be lost without data. It helps us to be really focused."
— Susan Conway Williamson, Principal, Mother Teresa Catholic School
"By looking at the evidence from EQAO, school and classroom data, we know where we need to improve. We build our school's success plan around that. We know the children, what is happening in the classroom and the kind of teaching strategies being used, so rich data is more than just numbers on a paper. Common instructional practices are the key."
— Silvia Speck, Principal, Laggan Public School
"The schools being profiled this year are being recognized for their success improving student learning and for their effective use of EQAO data to help guide their reflective practice. Their remarkable outcomes are a testament to how good information in the hands of dedicated professionals can be a winning combination for supporting student achievement. These school stories will no doubt serve to inspire other schools across the province."
— Bruce Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer, EQAO
