TORONTO, Oct. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Norah Marsh, Chief Executive Officer of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), is pleased to announce that Dr. Steven Reid will join the agency as its Chief Assessment Officer (CAO), effective October 30, 2017.
Over the span of his 26-year career, Dr. Reid has been a tireless advocate for students, and has served as an educational assistant, classroom teacher, vice-principal, principal and supervisory officer. He has dedicated his entire career to student achievement and well-being, and has worked extensively with students with special education needs. His passion for supporting all students and marginalized communities flows from a volunteer opportunity, while in university, working with students with severe cognitive disabilities.
Dr. Reid is currently the Director of the Field Services Branch at the Ministry of Education, where he is on secondment from the York Region District School Board. In his various roles, he has worked with educators across Ontario and has promoted the use of data analytic tools to help inform action plans. He also has significant experience in the areas of student assessment, data management, strategic planning and educational leadership.
Known for his collaborative approach and his passion for helping students succeed, Dr. Reid will be a key liaison between EQAO and Ontario educators.

- Dr. Reid is a recipient of a 2016 Amethyst Award (Group Service Excellence category) in recognition of his contribution, as part of a broader team effort, to support Syrian newcomers through the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Secretariat. The Amethyst Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement by Ontario Public Service employees.
- Dr. Reid is a sessional lecturer at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, where he teaches graduate courses in the department of Curriculum, Learning and Teaching.
