Ernst & Young Charity Golf Classic makes sizeable donation to new Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at SickKids
Funds will help support children's health care in Canada and beyond
TORONTO, June 24, 2013 /CNW/ - On June 12, 2013, Ernst & Young partners, staff, clients and guests teed off for the Ernst & Young Charity Golf Classic in support of The Hospital for Sick Children's (SickKids) new Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning. The event raised over $230,000.
"At Ernst & Young, we always strive to support and have a positive impact on our communities close to home and around the world," says Eric Rawlinson, Ernst & Young's Managing Partner for the Greater Toronto Area. "The new Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning is a 21-storey tower just up the street from our downtown Toronto office, but the groundbreaking work done at the Centre will have global reach, promoting best practices in children's health care, everywhere."
2013 marks the 15th anniversary of the Charity Golf Classic. Thanks to the generosity of clients and the business community, over $1.6 million has been raised over the years to support local charities, helping to make a real difference in our community.
"Research is a major area of focus at SickKids. From discovering the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis, to developing the Toronto protocol, which allows for earlier detection of childhood cancer, research continues to help the hospital provide better care for our young patients," says Ted Garrard, President and CEO, SickKids Foundation. "We are grateful to Ernst & Young for their support of our new Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning, which will allow SickKids to remain at the forefront of paediatric research, learning and care."
"The success of this tournament wouldn't have been possible without the support and generosity of our many sponsors, participants and volunteers," says Jeffrey Tannenbaum, Partner at Ernst & Young and Chair of the Charity Golf Classic. "We would especially like to thank our title sponsor, Sam & Claire Duboc and Family. Consistent with the tournament's tradition, the title sponsor helped to select the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning as this year's beneficiary."
