Espial Executive to Present at Montreal Web Video Conference
OTTAWA, April 30, 2012 /CNW/ - Espial, a leader in on-demand TV software and solutions, today announced that Dilshan De Silva, the companies Head of Browser Products, will present a session during the Montreal Web Video 2012 Conference on May 17 at the International Civil Aviation Organization head office in Montreal. De Silva's presentation, titled "Standards That Will Drive Video Applications and Cloud Services on Connected TVs," will discuss the challenges that exist for content creators and TV manufacturers as they deploy over-the-top (OTT) video services on smart TVs, as well as throw light on the standards that are helping to resolve those issues.
"As connected TVs become more prevalent, households are increasingly consuming OTT video content, managed services, games, and applications. Content creators and TV manufacturers have a unique opportunity to deliver these value-added services, but must ensure they perform well, provide security, allow for rich interactive content, and can scale across any device, including TVs, smartphones, and tablets," said De Silva. "My presentation will provide an in-depth overview of the Web and broadcast standards that are key to the proliferation of OTT content."
Throughout his 14-year career at Espial, De Silva has been instrumental in developing the company's smart TV business, having taken part in every smart TV and set-top box deployment. Currently, he is working with both consumer electronics vendors and cable operators to deploy the latest HTML5-based Espial TV Browser software on connected TVs and set-top boxes around the world.
Before Espial, De Silva held software development roles at Corel and Entrust. With a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, De Silva is an acknowledged expert in digital television technology.
