Dick Thompson's accomplishments include overhaul & consolidation of state IT and expanding broadband across the state
TORONTO, and SACO, ME, Aug. 17 /CNW/ - T4G Limited, a project-based technology services company that grows customers' businesses with smart technology solutions, is delighted to welcome aboard Dick Thompson, a man credited with overhauling the state of Maine's IT infrastructure through innovative and cost-effective solutions.
"Dick possesses vision, leadership and enthusiasm that helped the state of Maine become one of the best examples of government using technology to improve the lives of citizens," says T4G President Geoff Flood. "We are thrilled that Dick is joining T4G. He strengthens the T4G team and strengthens our commitment to customers and to working on things that matter."
Mr. Thompson joins T4G as a Principal Consultant focused on federal, state/provincial and local governments. Before entering the private sector, he worked for the state of Maine for 33 years and was the third-longest serving state CIO in the United States.
"After T4G opened its U.S. operations in Maine this year, I started finding out more and more about the company," Mr. Thompson says. "I just loved the culture inside T4G and its approach to business. Its core values are absolutely in line with mine so that this just seemed like a perfect opportunity."
T4G core values such as The Intelligent Application of Technology(TM) - listening and providing customers with what they need - and giving back to communities were two that resonated with Mr. Thompson, who has long given his time to various boards from the Main State Credit Union to organizations mandated to expand access to digital technology across Maine.
"His commitment - both as the state's CIO and also in his volunteer work - to implementing effective technologies to expand on-line services and access to public information is unparalleled," says B.J. Carter, T4G's Managing Director, Healthcare, Energy and Government.
In 2005, Mr. Thompson began to consolidate Maine's executive branch's IT into a single unit from 23 disparate IT units. He created the Office of Information Technology where the state's 500 IT workers efficiently brought together core functions like e-mail, infrastructure and data sharing across state agencies.
"This is the type of cost saving work that T4G can do for other governments and corporations with large enterprise IT infrastructure," Mr. Thompson adds.
In March, 2010, Government Technology Magazine selected Mr. Thompson as one of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers in the U.S. for his accomplishments in delivering technology services to the citizens of Maine.
"Dick has been an innovative leader and a trusted resource within the administration," Governor John Baldacci said in a news release. "He is a nationally recognized expert on information technology, and he has been at the forefront of important initiatives including broadband expansion, emergency communications and Maine's award-winning website."
Last October, Mr. Thompson received the 2009 Meritorious Service Award from the National Association of Chief Information Officers for outstanding service, advocacy and leadership in state government.
