November is Adoption Awareness Month
OTTAWA, Nov. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - "Adoption is an option for children and youth in care" is this years' theme for the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa's (CASO) adoption campaign.
During the month of November, CASO will be promoting Adoption Month within the Ottawa community in an effort to raise awareness and increase the number of adoptive families.
Race, culture and ethnicity are a few of the factors considered when trying to determine the best match for a child or youth. Other influences may include the ability to care for children with special needs and/or sibling groups. Most importantly, CASO looks for individuals who are willing to commit to a permanent lifetime relationship with a child or youth.
Families interested in adopting will be provided with training dedicated to assist with matters such as; the importance of connections to the birth family, children attachment anxieties, how a child may experience loss, as well as other influences that may be present in lives of CASO children and youth. Furthermore, resources and supports are made available pre and post adoption in addition to on-going support services to assist with the transition.
There are more than 90 children waiting to be adopted through CASO, many of them older or in a sibling group. No matter the age, everyone deserves a permanent family - a place to call home.
If you are ready to build your family through adoption by providing a loving, nurturing home for a child or youth, you can contact CASO at 613-742-1620 ext. 2 or visit www.winningkids.ca.
