Everything Old is New Again this Year at Black Creek Pioneer Village
TORONTO, May 6, 2015 /CNW/ - Imagine life without cars, computers or smartphones…While it may be hard to conceive, pioneer life in the mid 1800's was nothing like it is now. That's why stepping back in time at Black Creek Pioneer Village is such a memorable experience. By looking back, we appreciate how far we've come and what we've learned from the past. With old favourites blending with new activities, the 2015 season promises something for everyone.
Black Creek Pioneer Village is now open for another season and is a bustling place, with characters in costume going about their daily lives, cooking, sewing, planting, blacksmithing, spinning wool and making beer. The stables are filled with the sounds of new life as baby animals moo and bleat in the stalls. The Village is a wonder of bygone days and memories of simpler times.
New for the 2015 summer season are discovery stations, where visitors can dress up in pioneer costumes, dip candles, garden or play outdoor games. Characters from the past, played by history actors, will be bringing the past alive and interacting with guests of the Village. Visitors can get up close and personal with heritage farmyard animals like goats, bunnies, sheep and ducks. Visitors with green thumbs can get their gardening fix in The Grow Garden, then travel the Village in style in a horse-drawn wagonette.
Special events are just that at Black Creek Pioneer Village, and this year's line-up offer a range of activities sure to please everyone. On May 10, the Village hosts its annual Mothers' Day Brunch, honouring those who hold a special place in our hearts. Pirates & Princesses takes place May 16-18, giving children of all ages a chance to sport an eye patch, rattle a sabre or dress in tiaras and fancy dresses. Once again, the Village is part of Doors Open Toronto May 23, and 24.
The Battle of Black Creek takes place on June 20 and 21 and is followed by A Taste of British Car Day on June 28. There's no better place to celebrate Canada Day than at the Village on July 1 and be sure to stop in to view some of the most stunning quilts during Quilts at the Creek July 18 and 19.
