Excluding physicians from healthcare reform not a formula for success
OTTAWA, May 22, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) encourages the Government of Ontario to renew a commitment to collaborate with physicians to find solutions to the pressures facing our healthcare system.
Dr. Jamie Fraser, President of the CAR, states "excluding physicians from the process of healthcare reform is not a formula for success. We know from experience that for lasting and beneficial change to occur in the healthcare system, you need physicians and other healthcare professionals who provide patient care to be actively engaged."
On May 17, 2012, the CAR joined five other national organizations for the first ever Medical Imaging Team Day on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The event was a perfect example of positive, productive collaboration in the healthcare system. "I stood proudly with my colleagues," says Dr. Fraser, "and we committed to continuing to work together to foster the highest quality of medical imaging care for Canadians."
He goes on to state that "improving any area of patient care can only be achieved if physicians and all other healthcare professionals work together with governments. Through the CAR, we have seen the benefit to patient care when we have worked with governments on initiatives around the quality, appropriateness and safety of medical imaging. That type of collaboration continues, in our view, to be healthcare's best long-term formula for success."
