Exclusive media preview event/photo opp: Bata Shoe Museum's newest exhibit investigates 19th century fashion victims

TORONTO, June 13, 2014 /CNW/ -

WHAT:	The Bata Shoe Museum invites members of the media to attend an exclusive preview event and be among the first to take in its newest exhibition, Fashion Victims: The Pleasures and Perils of Dress in the 19th Century.
	Fashion Victims explores the dangers of dress in the 19th century - from clothing and accessories made with poisonous dyes and chemicals to the effects of constricting corsets and impossibly narrow footwear. The exhibition will also explore many of the often untold stories of those who toiled with hazardous materials and chemicals to make high-end fashion. The exhibit opens officially to the public on June 18, 2014.
WHO:	The exhibition's curators: Elizabeth Semmelhack, senior curator, Bata Shoe Museum, and Dr. Alison Matthews David, Associate Professor in the School of Fashion, Ryerson University will be on-hand to walk guests through the exhibition and discuss key pieces on display.

VISUAL OPPORTUNITY:
The exhibition will feature over 90 artifacts, many never before seen in Canada, from the Bata Shoe Museum's extensive holdings augmented by loans from private collections.  Numerous artifacts will be accessible to media for photo opportunities.
