MONTREAL, April 22, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Musée de Lachine invites the public to visit a new temporary exhibition Disappearance, opening on May 1.
The overstimulated societies in which we live impose a pace and a lifestyle that increasingly discourages us from stopping to look at images, from absorbing their various layers of meaning. Our comprehension of reality is ever more conditioned by abundance and speed, which leaves little room for slow, discreet, fleeting, impalpable, sometimes almost invisible things. With this in mind, the exhibition suggests a pause, offers a space conducive to contemplation, then invites visitors to slow down and take the time to see.
Disappearance implicitly revolves around three broad concepts - time, space and perception - while specifically addressing the notions of absence, memory, transition and non-place.
In addition to selected pieces from the Musée's collection, the exhibition features works by four guest contemporary artists: Patrick Bernatchez, Olivia Boudreau, Marie-Andrée Houde and Daniel Olson. There will also be a performance by artist Roxane Chamberland on opening night, set for April 30, 7:00 p.m.
Along with the contemporary works, exhibition curator Eve Katinoglou has selected archival photographs and archaeological finds that provide visitors with a broad temporal perspective.
