Experience winter in the city in a whole new way! - Snow Village heads to Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau
MONTREAL, Nov. 3, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - This January 6, Snow Village will officially open its gates in Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau. Acclaimed in Europe for 10 years already, it will be the Village's first time ever on western soil. "This is a very exciting recreo-tourism project for Parc Jean-Drapeau," says Christian Ouellet, Executive Director of the Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau. "In fact, the Snow Village is part of a major shift in the Société Parc Jean-Drapeau's winter programming, which will jump from three weekends to three months in 2012. This project is a winning partnership for Snow Village Canada and the Parc, but even more so for our visitors."
Snow Village Canada is a unique hotel experience, a gastronomic adventure and a hub for cultural, sports and family activities and urban entertainment. The Village will include a 30-room ice hotel with 15 standard rooms, 10 themed suites and 5 igloos. The complex will also boast heated outdoor spas, a 60-seat restaurant, a 250-seat bar with a terrace, a conference centre that can accommodate groups of up to 200 people, a chapel, maze, slides and so much more!
The project's promoters, Carl Fugère, Yanick Tremblay and Guy Bélanger from Snow Village Canada, are true-blue fans of everything Nordic. They first encountered the Snow Village concept in Finland during one of their many visits to Nordic countries. "We fell in love with the original project and decided to import it to Montreal," says Carl Fugère. "In fact, the Montreal version of Snow Village will be much more elaborate and have more features than the Finnish version. What's more, the Village will depict a different city each year, particularly through its sculptures, design and activities. For our first year, it seemed only natural to showcase Montreal."
The three promoters agree that this type of tourist attraction has huge potential: "There is a lot of demand for outdoor winter activities in Montreal, but until now there hasn't been any permanent winter event to meet this need. Snow Village will fill this void and appeal to Quebecers and tourists alike," says Carl Fugère.
