MONTREAL, Dec. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Exploration Orbite is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the first phase of the implementation of its alumina pilot project at Cap-Chat.
This phase involved startup of its ore pre-processing operations and equipment verification. Ore pre-processing is the set of operations required to prepare the material to ensure subsequent operations run smoothly.
"The pre-processing trials on material from the Orbite mining site enabled us to confirm the behavior of argilite during industrial production. The material proved to be very easy to treat, which bodes very well for the process' cost effectiveness," noted Joel Fournier, Orbite's Vice President for Technology.
The next stage will involve the startup of downstream ore processing operations, which include all the operations required to allow the extraction and purification of alumina.
"The most recent tests on the behavior of the material in Exploration Orbite's labs proved very conclusive, and lead us to believe that we will be able to speed up process optimization during the pilot phase," mentioned Sylvain Seyer, P. Eng., head of the process engineering department at Seneca Experts-Conseil, the engineering consulting firm hired by Orbite to carry out project engineering for the pilot plant.
Richard Boudreault, President of Orbite, is very proud of the way the project has progressed to date. "We began the pre-processing implementation phase in early December, well ahead of our planned schedule. The initial results have exceeded our expectations and that's very encouraging for the next phase."
