- Mobile Website to Provide Patients with Another Tool through which to Manage Prescription Drug Benefit
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Express Scripts Canada, one of the largest providers of health benefits management services in Canada, today announced the availability of the Express Scripts Canada Mobile Prescription ManagerSM, a mobile Website for patients of the Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy who use Online Prescription Manager.
The Mobile Prescription Manager, which is now available for use with Apple's iPhone, provides secure mobile access to maintenance prescription information for patients of the Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy, thereby offering another channel through which patients may proactively manage maintenance prescription medications for themselves and their eligible dependents.
"Express Scripts Canada developed the Mobile Prescription Manager in response to the rapidly expanding number of people who use mobile devices on a daily basis to manage a wide range of data," said Michael Biskey, President of Express Scripts Canada. "We believe that the added convenience offered to patients of the Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy, through the Express Scripts Canada Mobile Prescription Manager, will make it possible for them to better manage their health and their prescription drug benefit."
Express Scripts Canada expects to make the Mobile Prescription Manager Website accessible to other smart phones later in 2012. The Mobile Prescription Manager can be accessed at https://member.express-scripts.ca.
The launch of Mobile Prescription Manager follows the launch in December 2011 of the Express Scripts Canada Online Prescription Manager. Using the Online Prescription Manager, plan members can sign up for home delivery of maintenance medications from an Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy, facilitate the transfer of existing prescriptions from another pharmacy, and obtain prescription refills. Plan members will also be able to use the Online Prescription Manager to order, pay for and track the delivery status of their maintenance prescription medications.
Pharmacy Benefit Management
Express Scripts Canada's expanded pharmacy benefit management (PBM) service, which can be added by companies and organizations without changing insurance carriers, applies behavioural sciences to health-care decision-making to more effectively help manage benefit costs and improve health outcomes. Plan members, with the support of their physician, as appropriate, will interact with a team of qualified professionals at Express Scripts Canada to learn about their maintenance medication alternatives so that they can make more informed choices. The result will be decisions that promote improved health outcomes, while often reducing costs for both the member and the member's plan sponsor.
Working in conjunction with the expanded PBM service, an Express Scripts Canada Pharmacy will facilitate the dispensing and delivery of prescription drugs to treat ongoing medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The prescription is subsequently delivered, via free standard shipping, to patients' homes or to the address they designate.
A skilled team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians verify the clinical quality of those prescriptions filled. Patients also have access to pharmacists to answer questions about their medications.
With Express Scripts Canada's expanded PBM service, Canadian plan sponsors have access to proven tools to better manage the cost of the prescription drug benefit while providing plan members with an enhanced prescription drug service.
