Firm signs letter of intent for Up Consulting to join EY family
CALGARY, Oct. 9, 2014 /CNW/ - For the second time in 2014, EY is announcing a transaction to grow its Advisory practice. The global professional service firm has signed a letter of intent for Calgary-based advisory firm Up Consulting to join EY on approximately November 10.
"We're thrilled to welcome Up Consulting into the EY family," says Trent Henry, EY's Canadian Chairman and CEO. "Their highly skilled people will bring deep industry knowledge and an entrepreneurial spirit to our Advisory practice in Calgary and right across the country. Together, we'll continue to offer the kind of exceptional client service we're known for in one of the economic powerhouses of Canada – the West."
Clients of Up Consulting will benefit from a bigger team in the local market – combined with the unparalleled resources, global reach and bold brand of EY. Up Consulting and EY share some of the same clients who will see the full value of integrated services provided by one firm.
The founding partners of Up Consulting – Marc Joly, Michael Miller and John Penner – are thrilled with the transaction. "We've grown Up Consulting exponentially in just three years since we founded it in 2011. We're extremely proud of the firm and our people for building a strong reputation and quality service offerings that attracted a global brand such as EY," says Marc Joly, Partner at Up Consulting. "Clients require innovative solutions and deep industry knowledge in this continually evolving market, and joining our teams will be a powerful combination to meet their needs."
EY is investing in its Advisory practice from coast to coast. In May of this year, the firm announced a similar transaction with Ambir Solutions that saw 60 people join EY in Atlantic Canada, and this transaction will again grow their Advisory practice – this time in Western Canada. Combined with EY's recent launch of a new Canadian Centre for Advanced Analytics, the firm is strategically investing to meet the changing needs of clients and enhance its already robust teams across the country.
This transaction marks EY's sixth strategic acquisition in Canada in the last few years. Those deals include Ambir Solutions in 2014, SRED Automation in 2013, Hergott Duval Stack LLP (establishing the Saskatoon-based EY office) in 2012, portions of RSM Richter (in Toronto and Calgary) and OME Group Consultants (in Toronto, Montreal and Calgary) in 2011.
