Fact Check: Liberals will say anything to avoid talking about their jobs record
TORONTO, May 8, 2014 /CNW/ - As more 280 families in Bramalea were finding out they were losing their jobs, Deb Matthews was telling tall tales about Andrea Horwath's plan for a Job Creation Tax Credit. Presumably because the Liberals will do anything to avoid talking about their own record on jobs.
Today in London Deb Matthews said about a Job Creation Tax Credit: "Barack Obama implemented it, and then actually cancelled it because it is creating jobs that would have been created anyways… We've seen it tried and fail in other jurisdictions, so. We are really investing in the jobs here."
Here are the facts:
President Obama introduced this as a measure to create new jobs – and it was defeated by Republicans in Congress the same way our bill was defeated by Liberals in the Provincial Parliament.
Today Unilever Canada closed up shop and announced it was moving to Missouri, a jurisdiction with a tax credit plan tied to new jobs similar to the one put forward by Andrea Horwath (http://on.mo.gov/1srosYp)
And when Heinz pulled up stakes from Leamington putting over 700 families out of work, they moved to Ohio, a state with a Job Creator Tax Credit (http://1.usa.gov/1ov6gef)
In 2013, Liberal MPP Harinder Takhar made a similar tax credit proposal (http://bit.ly/RvVvwS)
