Family Channel Encourages Students to Stand UP! With Bullying-themed Programming Throughout November
11th ANNUAL BULLYING AWARENESS WEEK RUNS FROM NOVEMBER 18 - 24
TORONTO, Nov. 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Family Channel celebrates its 11th annual Bullying Awareness Week with a month-long programming event that encourages kids to take a stand against bullying. This year's Stand UP! campaign features a stacked lineup complete with celebrity interview segments, exclusive music videos, special episodes and footage from this year's Stand UP! rallies. The dedicated week runs from Monday, November 18 - Sunday, November 24.
Last week, Family Channel took the message of bullying prevention on the road, hosting Stand UP! rallies at three Canadian schools. Students were encouraged to enter to win a rally by telling Family how their school stands up to bullying. After receiving nearly 2,000 entries, the following schools were chosen:
- Sherwood Park Elementary School; North Vancouver, British Columbia
- Knoxdale Public School; Nepean, Ontario
- Rothesay Elementary School; Rothesay, New Brunswick
Students at each school were treated to an interactive rally hosted by Family stars Brittany Raymond (Riley, The Next Step) and Trevor Tordjman (James, The Next Step) who taught them the dance to "Stand Up and Shout," the campaign's original anthem. The students were given a sneak peek at a new bullying-themed Jessie episode, followed by a facilitated discussion about the issues raised in the episode by a representative from PREVNet, a national network of Canadian researchers and community organizations committed to ending bullying. During Bullying Awareness Week, Family will air exclusive footage of Brittany and Trevor's cross-Canada journey and will unveil a brand new version of the "Stand Up and Shout" music video featuring footage from all three rallies.
