Family Channel Makes a Splash With the Premiere of Teen Beach Movie on July 19
ROSS LYNCH AND MAIA MITCHELL STAR IN THE DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE
TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Family Channel rides the tide into summer with the highly anticipated premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie. Debuting Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, day and date with Disney Channel in the U.S., the modern take on classic beach party films features Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally, R5) and Maia Mitchell (The Fosters) as surfing sweethearts Brady and McKenzie. Immediately following the epic event, viewers will be treated to an exclusive first look of the new Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie, which premieres on Family Channel this fall.
Getting stuck in a movie is no day at the beach for surfers Brady and McKenzie who, while riding the final wave of summer, are mysteriously transported into Brady's favourite classic beach party film, "Wet Side Story." There, the couple find themselves back in the 1960s in the middle of a rivalry between the surfers and the bikers for control of the beach hangout - and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. While attempting to return to present day, Brady and McKenzie accidentally alter the movie's romantic storyline causing handsome surfer, Tanner, to fall for McKenzie and biker girl, Lela, to swoon over Brady. They need to hatch a plan to get the story back on track or they could be stuck in the movie, and the '60s, forever!
Fans can catch a wave to Family.ca to learn about their favourite charaters and play a variety of beach-themed games that will continue to pop up all summer long. Teen Beach Movie will be available on Family OnDemand beginning July 20.
The party continues with a special sneak preview of the new comedy series Liv and Maddie immediately following the movie. Newcomer Dove Cameron stars as identical twins Liv, a popular television star whose hit show has just finished its run, and Maddie, an outstanding student and school basketball phenomenon. Maddie's rising popularity at their Wisconsin high school is stifled when Liv makes a triumphant return from filming.
Teen Beach Movie also stars Grace Phipps (The Nine Lives of Chloe King) as Lela; Garrett Clayton as Tanner; John Deluca as Butchy; Chrissie Fit (General Hospital) as Cheechee; Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie) as Dr. Fusion; and Steve Valentine (Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, I'm In The Band) as Les Camembert.
In advance of the premiere, Teen Beach Movie's soundtrack, featuring 12 songs influenced by surf rock, Motown R&B, rockabilly and pop, will be available from Universal Music Canada for pre-sale beginning today on iTunes and sold in stores nationally beginning Tuesday, July 16. Acclaimed songwriters and producers contributing to the record include Antonina Armato & Tim James, Jeannie Lurie, Aris Archontis, Chen Neeman, David Lawrence & Faye Greenberg, Ali Dee, Mitch Allan, Jason Evigan and Nikki Leonti.
The writers of Teen Beach Movie are Vince Marcello and Mark Landry (Zombie Prom) and Robert Horn (Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure). The movie is directed by DGA-nominated Jeffrey Hornaday (Geek Charming, choreographer of A Chorus Line, Flashdance) who also choreographed with Chris Scott (Lemonade Mouth, Step Up 4, So You Think You Can Dance). David Buelow (Bring It On: Fight to the Finish) serves as executive producer with Robert F. Phillips (Teen Spirit, Valkyrie) as producer. Teen Beach Movie is a production of Rainforest Productions, LLC.
