Family Channel Surfs to the Top with Teen Beach Movie Ratings
SURF-ROCK MOVIE REACHES MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION VIEWERS
NETWORK DELIVERS TOP THREE PROGAMS FOR JULY 19
TORONTO, July 24, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Song, dance and surf proved to be the perfect combination for a ratings sensation on Family Channel this past weekend with the premiere of the highly anticipated Teen Beach Movie. The Disney Channel Original Movie drew an AMA of more than 818,100 viewers and reached more than 1.5 million unique viewers (Ind. 2+) on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.1 In addition, Teen Beach Movie was the #1 broadcast across all pay and specialty channels (Ind. 2+), while Family Channel's captivating lineup also delivered the #2 and #3 programs for the day across all stations with the network's core audience of kids aged 6-12, as well as with the kids aged 2-11 and 8-14 demographics.2
"Teen Beach Movie is a great example of the success Family experiences when we build a Disney movie into a television event by pairing it with our hit series," said Donna Dos Reis, Director, Programming, Family Channel. "Viewers are drawn to our Big Ticket Summer lineup and Friday's ratings reinforce our position as leaders in delivering the summer viewing experience kids and families want."
Starring Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally, R5) and Maia Mitchell (The Fosters), Teen Beach Movie was the most popular program across all networks on Friday, as well as the number one broadcast all day across all English-language stations (K2-11, K6-12, K8-14).3 Immediately following the movie, the network's exclusive first-look at the upcoming Disney Channel Original Series Liv and Maddie proved popular with viewers taking the second spot (K6-12, K8-14)4; and Family locked up the number three spot with a new episode of the hit series Austin & Ally that led into the movie (K6-12, K8-14).5
Teen Beach Movie follows surfing sweethearts Brady (Lynch) and McKenzie (Mitchell) who, while riding the final wave of summer, are mysteriously transported into the classic beach party film "Wet Side Story." There, the couple find themselves back in the 1960s in the middle of a rivalry between the surfers and the bikers for control of the beach hangout - and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance.
Teen Beach Movie and select episodes from the Austin & Ally marathon are currently available on Family OnDemand. Family will premiere the special Teen Beach Movie Sing Along Edition on Friday, July 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, where the lyrics to the movie's nine surf-rock songs will appear on the screen giving viewers the chance to join in on the fun.
