Family-friendly flexible boundary policy helps Peel parents, students
TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Peel District School Board parents will have greater flexibility in choice of schools this fall under a revised family-friendly flexible boundary policy. Subject to space, parents can now apply for flexible boundary access for a school outside their boundary for daycare or program purposes.
Notes Scott Moreash, associate director of instructional support services, "We know that childcare is a key concern for our families, and we wanted to make sure we responded with greater flexibility. For the first time, under our new family-friendly policy, families can now apply to have their children attend schools in the same neighbourhood as their childcare provider. This is welcome news for many Peel families and it is the right thing to do."
The policy provides a priority order to use in considering the requests, with a school near the daycare provider the first priority. The policy includes access to the full-day kindergarten program. Decisions on the request are to be made by September 30, but schools will attempt to notify parents earlier, where possible.
