Famous PEOPLE Players PR Director to Receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Jeannine Dupuy, Public Relations Director of Famous PEOPLE Players will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 19, 2014 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
For many years, Famous PEOPLE Players have entertained audiences in Toronto and across Canada. This troupe of talented performers entertains crowds with their unique and engaging black light show.
To honour their 40th Anniversary this year, Dupuy contacted Toronto Fire Services to propose an idea that would bring fire safety messages to life for school-age audiences.
With content advice from Toronto Fire Services, Famous PEOPLE Players created a special fire safety segment that would follow their regular performances. Fire safety messages came alive through the magic of their black light show. The learning experience was enhanced by Sparky the Fire Dog and each student was provided with a copy of the popular fire safety book No Dragons for Tea: Fire Safety for Kids (and Dragons). After the fire safety performances, firefighters were invited on stage to reinforce the fire safety messages and answer questions.
"Bringing messages about fire safety to life helps young people get a perspective of why it's important to know what to do when a fire occurs," said Ted Wieclawek, Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "Thanks to the initiative of Jeannine, students have been able to learn some critical life lessons about fire safety through a memorable experience."
