TORONTO, Dec. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Kevin Crull, President, Bell Media, today congratulated Jeanne Beker, Canadian fashion icon and FashionTelevisionChannel host, along with Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News, for receiving the prestigious 2012 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the Arts & Communications category. Winners are selected based on their strategic vision and leadership, their organization's financial performance, and their commitment to their communities.
As the Top 100 Award marks its 10th anniversary of celebrating the professional achievements of women across the country, Freeman and Beker join a community of 653 women who have received the Top 100 Award over the last decade in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors in Canada.
"We are very proud to see Jeanne and Wendy recognized by WXN for their outstanding talent and invaluable contributions not just to broadcasting, but to excellence in Canadian business and the communities in which they serve," said Crull.
Jeanne Beker is one of the most iconic and influential women in the fashion industry, both here in Canada and around the world. Recently announced as one of the key media personalities for TheLoop.ca, Bell Media's innovative new lifestyle brand, Beker is also the host of FashionTelevisionChannel - Canada's first and only 24-hour channel dedicated to fashion, beauty and design. Previously host of Canada's leading fashion series FASHION TELEVISION for 27 years, she is now a contributing editor to The Toronto Star and The Kit, a columnist for Metro, a published author of five books (the latest two released in Spring 2011 - Finding Myself in Fashion and Strutting It: The Grit Behind The Glamour), and a regular contributor to CANADA AM, THE MARILYN DENIS SHOW, and ETALK.
"Jeanne Beker continues to be an incredible trailblazer in the Canadian television industry," said Crull. "Through innovation, tenacity, and élan, she has ensured Canadian content is seen and celebrated around the world."
Since being named President of CTV News in December 2010, Freeman has been responsible for news, information, and current affairs programming, including CTV NATIONAL NEWS, CTV News Channel, BNN, CP24, and CTVNews.ca. Also under her leadership are CANADA AM, W5, QUESTION PERIOD, and CTV News specials. Freeman presides over all Bell Media news editorial content and newsgathering efforts, and oversees the newsrooms' day-to-day operations, leading CTV News' award-winning and most-watched coverage of the world's biggest news stories, including the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, London 2012, and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. In 2012 under Freeman's leadership, the CTV News division was recognized with the prestigious RTNDA Bert Canning Award for Best Newscast for CTV NATIONAL NEWS, along with 46 other RTDNA awards for local and national news programs.
"Wendy Freeman is a passionate leader who continues to work tirelessly in ensuring Canadian viewers, in places big and small, get the local, regional, national, and international news content that matters to them," said Crull.
"On behalf of the WXN community of 18,000 women, we congratulate each of this year's Winners who we honour as part of the 10th year of the Top 100 Awards," said Pamela Jeffery, Founder, Women's Executive Network. "This is an extraordinary group of female leaders who join our community, and they truly embody the qualities WXN strives to recognize; they are dynamic, inspiring and engaging leaders blazing new trails for the next generation."
Co-presented by Scotiabank and KPMG, WXN has awarded an outstanding group of women this year from a variety of industries ranging from corporate executives and entrepreneurs to trailblazers and trendsetters changing the world with their professional contributions. This year, WXN celebrates a decade of the Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards, paying tribute to the 653 incredible women who have received this honour to date, including 88 of whom who have joined the Top 100 Hall of Fame. Beker AND Freeman will attend the award celebration on December 5 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto, where the Top 100 Award Winners will lead WXN's afternoon leadership Summit, appropriately themed "An Afternoon of Inspired Leadership," offering insight to the more than 400 women in attendance. Award winners will then be celebrated at the Top 100 Awards 10th annual Gala Dinner that evening.
