Fast in the 6 invites Toronto to share a meal together
Details of the third annual celebration announced
TORONTO, April 4, 2019 /CNW/ - Toronto is diverse, Toronto is united and Toronto is prosperous in so many ways. These are three of our greatest assets as a city and it's something worth celebrating. Fast in the 6 returns to Nathan Phillips Square on May 24 at 7:30 pm to celebrate the diversity and inclusion that makes Toronto great. In the spirit of Ramadan, Fast in the 6 invites Torontonians and visitors alike to come together and participate in the simple but powerful act of sharing a meal. In addition to delicious food, the evening will also be filled with laughs, live music and fireworks.
Fast in the 6 was founded in 2017 by Toronto philanthropists, Lisa and Dany Assaf. They wanted to create an event that brought people together to celebrate the inclusive community unique to Toronto and the GTA.
"The source of our strength both economically and socially is our diversity. Toronto is one of the few places in the world where people from different backgrounds can come together and share a meal and an experience like this. We are happy to bring this event back for a third year and are excited to celebrate with Toronto on May 24," says co-founder, Dany Assaf.
There will be delicious food to enjoy all evening long. Maple Lodge Farms and Sobeys will hand out free meals to break the fast at sunset. There will also be food trucks serving up summertime eats.
The in-arena host for the Toronto Raptors, Mark Strong, will once again host the evening. Mo Amer, star of the Netflix comedy special, The Vagabond, returns for another year and Mayor John Tory will take the stage to say a few words. The evening of celebration in the Square will also include music from Quebecois singer, Andee, and rapper and songwriter, Raz.
More exciting performers will be announced closer to the event. A portion of proceeds from this year's event will go to Daily Bread Foodbank.
2019 sponsors include: Sobeys, Maple Lodge, Air Canada, TD, City of Toronto, RBC, KPMG, DBRS, Torys, Westin Harbour Castle, OCI Architecture and The DMZ.
