TORONTO, Feb. 23, 2017 /CNW/ - IAMGOLD Corporation ("the Company") deeply regrets to report the death of an employee this morning at its Westwood Mine in Quebec.
The deceased was discovered lying next to his parked equipment after the night shift. There were no indications of an accident or equipment failure. Westwood's emergency response team was immediately deployed and provided emergency assistance. Government authorities, including the provincial safety authorities CNESST, and the police were immediately notified and called to the site.
The employee's family has been notified and government authorities are leading an investigation to determine the cause of death. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of our colleague and we are offering support at this difficult time.
