MONTREAL, Feb. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform customers that repair work carried out at McGill métro station will require the Union Sud entrance building to be closed from February 18 to May 21 inclusively.
Transit users can still access the station through the next nearest entrance, Union Nord, located at 2021 Union Avenue. The four other entrance buildings will also remain open. No bus stops will be relocated as part of the project.
Estimated at $886 000, the renovations work planned during that period will consist mainly in replacing the travertine tiles lining the entrance building walls. Those travertine tiles are in fact being repurposed, as they were removed from the walls along the train platform and on the mezzanine level during earlier phases of work. An anti-graffiti film will also be applied on the wall to protect its finish. Furthermore, the ' butterfly-type' pivoting doors will be replaced, a new concrete floor slab will be poured, the suspended ceiling will be removed and, lastly, the lighting will be upgraded.
These renovations are being carried out as part of Phase I of the Réno-Infrastructures program, in which Transport Québec and STM are financial partners.
STM reminds the public that, as the system's second busiest station with nearly 12 million passengers in 2011, McGill metro station has, since March 2012, been undergoing repair work totalling $3.7 M that will be completed by May.
