Federal budget: $10 million for Improving and Expanding Canada's Snowmobile and Recreational Trails
MONTREAL, Feb. 14, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Economic Action Plan 2014 - presented this week in the House of Commons by Minister of Finance, Jim Flaherty - proposes to provide $10 million over two years to improve and expand snowmobile and recreational trails across the country.
Mr Serge Ritcher, President of the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec (FCMQ), along with Mr. Mario Drouin, Vice-President, were in attendance in Ottawa for the presentation of the federal budget and had the opportunity to meet members of the Conservative Party caucus, as well as the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, with whom they had a fruitful exchange.
"Mr Harper understands very well the importance of snowmobiling in Quebec, an important economic and tourism lever in our regions. The thousands of volunteers working in this industry make it unique in the world. It is precisely this participation which gives it its strength and makes it successful", added Mr. Ritcher.
The president of the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec adds that this announcement is the result of more than three years of work initiated by his predecessor, Mr Dany Quirion, working in concert with the Quebec caucus of the Conservative Party. This provides proof that the efforts were not in vain.
The Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec is a leader in the snowmobile industry. Snowmobiling generates in excess of $2 billion in annual economic activity in the province. The FCMQ represents over 80,000 members and 202 member clubs responsible for maintaining a network of over 32,000 km of trails.
