In Québec, more than 245,000 children do not have enough to eat, leading to health problems and problems in school. Feed A Child helps build the future of Quebec.
MONTREAL, Aug. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - A 2009 Statistics Canada survey revealed that 14% of Quebeckers face lack of food or the fear of it. This number rises to 33% in the case of single-parent families. In 2012, this represented 245,000 children spending their day in school on an empty stomach.
To help those children, L'ŒUVRE LÉGER is launching the 18th edition of its Feed A Child Campaign, which will run from August 15 to September 1st. The annual campaign will make it possible to fund 32 community organizations who, in collaboration with schools and other institutions, offer a range of services that allow needy children to eat healthfully, improve their health, and achieve better emotional, intellectual and social balance.
"These organizations do monumental and precious work," says Francis Bouillon, Montreal Canadians No 55 and the campaign's newest spokesperson. "People's gifts make it possible to offer homework workshops, cooking classes on Saturday, recreational activities that foster socialization, psychological support for victims of parental neglect, as well as several services for young parents."
Because L'ŒUVRE LÉGER takes care of all campaign management fees, Feed A Child is able to distribute 100% of the gifts it receives. Last year, donor generosity made it possible to raise $180,00 at Metro groceries check-outs.
"We are proud to support the Feed A Child Campaign for the eighth consecutive year. Thanks to our customers' generosity in 2012, we were able to give back their smile and their hope to close to 30,000 children. This year, we would like to increase this number and give our children a better future perspective", states Marie-Claude Bacon, Senior Director, Corporate Affairs Department at Metro Inc.
The 2013 objective is $200,000. Let's work together!
Gifts can be made by mail (with a cheque made to "Feed A Child") to 130 avenue de l'Épée, Montreal (Quebec) H2V 3T2; by phone at 1-877-288-7383; and on our secure website at leger.org.
