MONTREAL, May 21, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Fiera Capital Corporation ("Fiera Capital") is proud to be associated with Special Olympics Québec (SOQ) as the sponsoring partner of the school program designed to help young people living with an intellectual disability. This initiative, now known as the Fiera Capital SOQ school program, will run from 2015 to 2019.
"We're really pleased to support Special Olympics Québec in this high-benefit project and to promote, through sports and competition, the social inclusion of thousands of youngsters living with an intellectual disability", said Jean-Guy Desjardins, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Fiera Capital.
The Fiera Capital SOQ school program is a major component of SOQ's strategic development plan, designed to initiate students from Québec's elementary and secondary schools who are living with an intellectual disability into the wonders of sport.
"Special Olympics Québec is truly honoured to have the support of a financial firm with Fiera Capital's drive and commitment as a sponsoring partner of the Fiera Capital SOQ school program, which we hope to make accessible to an increasing number of students over the next few years", noted Daniel Granger, Chairman of the Board of Special Olympics Québec.
Since its inception more than three years ago, the SOQ school program has grown by leaps and bounds and proven highly successful. During the 2013-2014 school year, over 2,500 students were registered in the school program through more than 20 school boards in Québec.
To maximize student development, the Fiera Capital SOQ school program requires a commitment on the part not only of phys ed teachers and their students, but also of the kids' parents. This project will enable them to experience customized and enriching training and competitions with the support of a large number of volunteers.
Over the coming years, the Fiera Capital SOQ school program will seek to attract more athletes and to implement initiatives that will generate student interest in sports at school and smooth the transition of more students to the sports and competition programs offered by Special Olympics Québec throughout the province.
