This year, the 42.2-kilometre route was fully redesigned to take athletes through downtown and Old Montreal, with a quick jaunt through the Old Port before heading to the Southwest borough and along the Lachine Canal. The marathoners then returned via Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Stret before climbing upward to the Plateau-Mont-Royal and turning east. The runners also had the opportunity to cross through Montreal's Botanical Garden before making a final dash to the finish line.
A new Guinness World record!
It is worth acknowledging runner Sébastien Roulier's performance in meeting his challenge to break the Guinness World record for the fastest marathon pushing a wheelchair. Together with his copilot Marie-Michèle, he crossed the finish line in 3:01:25, 34 minutes faster than the preceding mark.
