TORONTO, April 5, 2017 /CNW/ - On 28 March 2017, CFA Society Toronto announced the winners of the three award categories at this year's Financial Journalism Awards reception.
The Financial Journalism Awards were created to acknowledge the contributions of Canadian-based financial publications and journalists who show true commitment to high professional standards through their contributions towards improving transparency, strengthening investor education and supporting the Society's efforts to shape a trustworthy, forward thinking financial industry that better serves society. The three award categories are: Publication of the Year, Journalist of the Year, and The Spirit of the Future of Finance. The Spirit of the Future of Finance award launched in support of CFA Institute's global Future of Finance initiative.

Furthermore, during the awards reception, Devin Crago, CFA, Chair of CFA Society Toronto's Member Communications committee announced that the City of Toronto had approved CFA Society Toronto's proclamation request to recognize May 2017 as Investor Awareness Month. This is part of the Society's local efforts in supporting CFA Institute's Putting Investors First initiative. "Putting Investors First is about taking a leadership role to shape a trustworthy, forward-thinking investment profession that better serves our community. A starting point for serving our community better is the belief that financial market practices should be fair and financial services provided should put investors' interests' first." said Devin.
