Financial results for the first quarter of 2012-2013 - Sales increase 7.4% and profit grows 11.1% Français
MONTREAL, Aug. 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - For the first quarter of its 2012-2013 fiscal year, which ended on June 23, 2012, the SAQ had sales of $653.5 million, an increase of $45.2 million or 7.4% from the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. The SAQ also reported a profit of $230.9 million for the 12-week period, up $23 million or 11.1% from the same quarter in fiscal 2011-2012.
Ever improving operating ratio
Net expenses totaled $117.9 in the first quarter, compared with $115.9 million for the preceding fiscal year. Under control and expressed as a percentage of net sales, net expenses amounted to 18% for the first quarter of 2012-2013, as opposed to 19.1% for the corresponding quarter of preceding fiscal year.
Wine remains in first place
The outlet and specialized centre network once again contributed to this growth, achieving sales of $575 million, a 7.8% increase from the $533.2 million for the corresponding quarter of the preceding fiscal year. Sales in the wholesale grocer network rose $3.4 million or 4.5% to $78.5 million.
As for volume sales by product category, the large wine category once again stood out, with sales totalling 32.6 million litres, an increase of 1.5 million litres or 4.3%. Sales of spirits, which are sold exclusively through the outlet and specialized centre network, maintained their upward momentum, climbing 9.1% from 4.4 million litres to 4.8 million litres. For their part, sales of coolers grew by 0.4 million litre to end the first quarter at 2.8 million litres. Lastly, the imported beers, ciders and related products category remained stable at 0.8 million litres sold.
