Financial results for the second quarter of 2012-2013 - Sales increase 2.7% and profit grows 3.4% Français
MONTREAL, Nov. 16, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - For the second quarter of its 2012-2013 fiscal year, which ended on September 15, 2012, the SAQ had sales of $652.5 million, an increase of $17.3 million or 2.7% from the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. The SAQ also reported a profit of $235.5 million for the 12-week period, up $7.7 million or 3.4% from the same quarter in fiscal 2011-2012.
Ever improving operating ratio
Net expenses totaled $115.5 million in the second quarter, compared with $111.4 million for the preceding fiscal year. Under control and expressed as a percentage of net sales, net expenses amounted to 17.9% for the first 24 weeks of 2012-2013, as opposed to 18.3% for the corresponding quarter of preceding fiscal year.
Wine remains in first place
The outlet and specialized centre network once again contributed to this growth, achieving sales of $582.3 million, a 1.9% increase or $10.8 million. Sales in the wholesale grocer network rose $6.5 million or 10.2% to $70.2 million.
As for volume sales by product category, the large wine category once again stood out during the second quarter, with sales totalling 35.7 million litres, an increase of 1.1 million litres or 3.2%. Sales of spirits, which are sold exclusively through the outlet and specialized centre network, remained stable at 5 million litres for this period. For their part, sales of coolers decreased by 6.3% totaling 3 million litres at the end the second quarter. Lastly, the imported beers, ciders and related products category increased by 12.5% reaching 0.9 million litres sold.
